Job Description
Job Title: Healthcare Authorization Coordinator
Pay Rate: $23.00/hour
Location: Onsite – 5 Days/Week
Job Type: Full-Time Contract
Job Summary
We are seeking a Healthcare Authorization Coordinator to support healthcare operations by ensuring accurate insurance eligibility, authorization management, and patient admission data integrity. This role works closely with internal teams to maintain accurate documentation, resolve authorization issues, and support timely reimbursement through clean claims processes.
The ideal candidate will have experience with healthcare authorizations, insurance verification, eligibility, patient access, or revenue cycle operations. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Healthcare Authorization Coordinator Responsibilities
- Manage pending admissions, new admissions, and outstanding authorization items.
- Verify insurance eligibility and authorizations while identifying potential issues.
- Maintain accurate admission, discharge, transfer, and authorization data to support clean claims.
- Create and maintain timely documentation according to established processes and standards.
- Manage room and board agreements and related documentation.
- Collaborate with operational teams to resolve eligibility and authorization discrepancies.
- Perform root cause analysis and recommend solutions for process improvement.
- Review revenue cycle reports and identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assign and prioritize tasks based on workload, reporting data, and business needs.
- Track issues and escalate high-impact concerns to leadership.
- Train new employees on internal systems, workflows, and procedures.
- Maintain and update process documentation and team resources.
- Assist with staffing coordination, coverage planning, and PTO calendar management.
- Prioritize service desk tickets, process issues, and special projects.
- Participate in team meetings and assist with process improvement initiatives.
- Support leadership with performance documentation and evaluations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Healthcare Authorization Coordinator Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Some college coursework and/or healthcare experience preferred.
- Experience with healthcare insurance verification, eligibility, prior authorizations, patient access, or revenue cycle preferred.
- Knowledge of government and commercial payer requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to identify process improvements.
- Must be a team player with strong collaboration skills.
Healthcare Authorization Coordinator Additional Information
- Pay: $23.00/hour
- Schedule: Monday–Friday
- Work Arrangement: Fully onsite (5 days per week)
- Travel: Minimal travel required
Healthcare Authorization Coordinator Preferred Experience
- Prior authorization or insurance verification experience.
- Healthcare payer or benefits verification experience.
- Experience with healthcare systems, EMR platforms, or authorization databases.
- Experience training or mentoring team members.
- Experience supporting healthcare operations or revenue cycle teams.
