Job Description
- Assists in the preparation, performance, and dictation of human specimen dissection and gross analysis.
- Performs gross examination of specimens and provides dictation of observations through voice recognition software.
- Responsible for the overall assurance that all specimens are processed in an adequate and satisfactory manner, labeled properly, and that all paperwork is accurate and complete.
- Obtains samples for ancillary studies including: Cytogenetics, Flow Cytometry, Frozen section and intraoperative consultation, Lymphoma protocol, Tissue banking and clinical trials, Touch/squash preparation, Tumor mapping, and Tumor triage.
- Reviews accuracy of macroscopic descriptions and confirms accuracy while performing editing of CPT codes.
- Reviews clinical information including imaging, laboratory results, and operative notes.
- Discusses cases with surgeons, clinicians, and pathologists.
- Communicates any problems encountered with specimens to the correct unit, department, or office.
- Registers, accessions, and processes specimens/tissues as needed.
- Photographs surgical specimens, as requested.
- Tissue preparation, cryotomy, and staining of specimens for frozen section.
- Performs maintenance of equipment and ensures the department is adequately supplied.
- Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety-related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Unit is looking for an 8-week contract starting the week of 06/01.
- Candidate will be working at CHS West and will need to float over to CH South for coverage from 07/07/25 – 07/11/25.
- Required certifications: ASCP certification.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited NACCLS Pathologists' Assistant Program is registry eligible OR ASCP.
- Licenses/Certifications: CRT-Pathologist Assistant - ASCP, American Society for Clinical Pathology.
