Job Title: Corrections RN

Pay: $47-$50 an hr | Bi-weekly

Job Type: Onsite in Caldwell OH 43724

Shift Options:

  • three 12 hour shifts / rotating shifts 2pm-2am
  • three 12 hour shifts / rotating shifts 6pm-6am

Corrections RN Overview:

  • The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive professional nursing care to individuals in institutional or facility-based settings, including students, inmates, juvenile offenders, or other consumers housed in state-owned or state-operated facilities.
  • The nurse assesses patient health needs, administers treatments and medications, responds to medical emergencies, and coordinates care in accordance with established nursing standards, state and federal regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Provides professional nursing care to hospitalized students, infirmary patients, clinic out-patients, inmates, or other consumers.
  • Observes, assesses, and records patient symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Conducts nursing rounds and records vital signs.
  • Prepares and administers prescribed medications, immunizations, and ordered treatment plans.
  • Monitors restrained or isolated patients at required intervals (e.g., every 15 minutes).
  • Provides immediate medical attention during emergencies, including first aid, CPR, and coordination of transport to emergency medical facilities.
  • Contacts physicians as necessary and counsels patients regarding medical referrals.
  • Assumes responsibility for the total nursing care of 20–60 bedridden patients or inmates.
  • Develops and evaluates care plans and provides patient health education.
  • Administers medications, including narcotics.
  • Performs specialized nursing procedures, including but not limited to:
    • IV therapy
    • Chemotherapy
    • Wound care
    • Oxygen therapy
    • Dialysis
    • Blood transfusions
    • Intubation and CPR
    • Tube feeding
    • Catheterization
    • Suctioning
    • Phlebotomy
  • Organizes and oversees “Code Blue” emergency response teams.
  • Directs healthcare staff such as hospital aides and licensed practical nurses.
  • Acts as lead worker for an assigned shift in the absence of higher-level nursing staff.
  • May schedule, assign, and review work of lower-level staff, including approving or disapproving leave requests and completing performance evaluations (as assigned).
  • Participates in staff development, training, and orientation of new employees.
  • Reviews care plans prepared by staff.
  • Accurately charts and records medications, treatments, and pertinent medical information.
  • Completes required reports, including incident and accident reports.
  • Documents Medicaid and related billing information.
  • Orders medical supplies and equipment and maintains accurate inventories.
  • Maintains strict control and documentation of controlled substances and medical equipment.
  • Arranges outpatient clinic appointments, medical examinations, and prescription services through local pharmacies.
  • Performs administrative tasks and serves as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conducts or attends meetings and may serve as an instructor or member/leader of problem-solving teams.
  • Knowledge of professional registered nursing principles and procedures.
    Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to nursing.
    Knowledge of public relations, inventory control, and employee training and development (some developed after employment).
    Skill in operating medical equipment, including stethoscopes, otoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and EKG machines.
    Ability to:
    Assess and respond to both abstract and concrete clinical situations.
    Write clear, concise, and accurate reports.
    Gather, organize, and interpret data related to patients, people, or processes.
    Demonstrate physical fitness sufficient to perform job duties.

Corrections RN Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Ohio, issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing in accordance with Section 4723.03 of the Ohio Revised Code.
