Position Title: Customer Services Specialist
Location: Detroit, MI
Schedule:

• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM

• Wednesday: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  Assignment Dates: 02/16/2026 – 06/08/2026
  Assignment Type: Temp to perm (opportunity to extend or convert to permanent based on business needs)
  Pay Rate: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour

Position Overview

The Customer Services Specialist supports customer relations across multiple healthcare product lines by responding to member inquiries, resolving service issues, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. This role involves investigation, education, and collaboration with internal departments to ensure timely and accurate resolutions while maintaining compliance with all privacy and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to member inquiries via telephone, mail, in person, and written correspondence

• Research, investigate, and resolve inquiries, complaints, and appeals in accordance with department policies and procedures

• Educate current and prospective members on policies, procedures, benefit plans, coverage provisions, and product offerings

• Document all inquiries accurately to track member history and identify trends

• Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with Privacy and HIPAA regulations

• Monitor workflow inboxes and outstanding cases to ensure timely resolution and follow-up

• Contact members by phone or in writing as needed to provide updates and resolution

• Collaborate professionally with internal support departments to meet member needs

• Build and maintain strong interdepartmental relationships

• Interact with providers and provider staff to obtain information needed to resolve inquiries

• Identify root causes and service trends; recommend process improvements to support service recovery and retention

• Support member enrollment periods, outreach activities, departmental projects, and corporate initiatives

• Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Minimum of two (2) years of recent Customer Service or Call Center experience within the last three years

• High level of dependability, integrity, patience, empathy, tact, and professionalism

• Strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, sound judgment, and service excellence mindset

• Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently with accuracy and timeliness

• Strong interpersonal, listening, verbal communication, and business writing skills

• Proficiency using a PC and Microsoft Office applications

• Fundamental understanding of HMO, PPO, and POS healthcare delivery systems and claims billing

• Ability to work flexible shifts, overtime, evenings, and weekends as requested or scheduled

Education Requirements

• Completion of a Medical Terminology course (required within six months of employment), and one of the following:

  • Associate’s Degree, or

  • A minimum of four (4) years of recent, related customer service experience in lieu of a degree

Compensation & Benefits

• $20.00 – $22.00 per hour

• Benefits available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment
