Cytotechnologist Compensation
• The pay for this position is $50.00 per hour
• Benefits are available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment
• A 401(k) with a company match is available for full-time employees with 1 year of service on our eligibility dates
Cytotechnologist Highlights
• This position is a contract assignment with potential to hire on permanently based upon attendance, performance, and business needs
• The required availability for this position is Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM (some flexibility with morning start times); no weekends or call
Cytotechnologist Responsibilities
• Microscopically examine prepared and stained smears to detect cellular abnormalities and classify findings
• Screen gynecological specimens (Pap smears), issue diagnostic reports on negative cases, and route abnormal cases to cytopathologists
• Process specimens and perform staining procedures as per department protocols
• Rotate between technical processing, NGYN screening, and cubicle stations
• Attend fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures and assist physicians with onsite adequacy
• Maintain laboratory documentation, equipment, and participate in quality improvement programs
• Train and support cytotechnology students, MLTs, and new staff
• Communicate cytology results to clinicians and handle general lab inquiries
• Use Thin Prep imaging systems and ensure compliance with CLIA 88 screening limits
Cytotechnologist Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree with completion of a CAAHEP-accredited cytotechnology program
• Thin Prep Imaging and Thin Prep certification
• Completion of 2024 or 2025 cytology proficiency testing with results available
• Ability to sit at a microscope for extended periods and demonstrate strong visual acuity
• High School Diploma or GED
• Attendance is mandatory for the first 90 days
Cytotechnologist Preferred Qualifications
• At least 3 years of cytotechnology experience
• Experience with FNA adequacy procedures
• Strong color vision and attention to detail
