Location: Remote-Must reside in Pennsylvania!
Hourly Pay: $47/hr.
Schedule: MON-FRI 8am-4pm
Travel: Monthly travel required to various areas of the State, most frequently Pittsburgh & Philadelphia, though other areas may be necessary.
About the Position:
We are seeking a Deaf and Nontraditional Communication Support Professional to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the Deaf Services Coordinator to ensure that Deaf participants in home and community-based service programs receive the necessary accommodations and supports to enhance their receptive and expressive communication. The professional will support individuals with communication needs across the lifespan, working with various Pennsylvania offices and organizations to expand the availability of resources and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Planning: Assist in assessing the capacity and statewide needs for supporting individuals with communication needs.
- Developing Strategies: Create strategies to improve the organization, financing, and delivery of services to people with communication needs.
- Training Development: Design and present training materials, including online modules and e-learning courses, to enhance knowledge about communication needs for providers, Administrative Entities, Supports Coordination Organizations, and others.
- Collaboration: Work with Administrative Entities and Supports Coordination Organizations to develop communication specialists and qualified providers to support individuals with communication needs in home and community-based settings.
- Provider Recruitment: Assist in recruiting and expanding the availability of providers who are willing and qualified to support individuals with communication needs.
- Resource Expansion: Collaborate with others to develop and expand resources for individuals with communication needs.
- Service Monitoring: Ensure recommended communication supports are offered to individuals promptly and that they are provided with informed choices regarding these supports.
- Complaint Resolution: Address complaints relating to communication needs, ensuring a positive experience for all involved.
- Creating Supportive Environments: Work collaboratively with individuals, providers, and organizations to identify and create environments that foster effective communication and promote individual choice.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology or a related field.
- Experience:
- At least 2 years of professional experience working with individuals who communicate through sign language, tactile sign language, visual gestural communication, or other nontraditional communication methods.
- At least 1 year of professional experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) at Survival Level required; Intermediate Plus level or higher strongly preferred.
