Gero-Psych Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Travel Contract (Order SUM-2167)

Shift: 3 x 12 hour  (Night Shift)

Gero-Psych Nurse (RN) Job Overview:

We are looking for a compassionate Gero-Psych Nurse to join our Behavioral Health Pavilion (BHP) at the Akron campus in Ohio for a 13-week travel contract. This position requires an experienced RN who has expertise in caring for geriatric psychiatric patients, particularly those with dementia, depression, or suicidal tendencies. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of RN experience, along with BLS and CPI Blue Card certifications, and recent Epic experience.

Gero-Psych Nurse (RN) Key Responsibilities:

• Provide psychiatric care to geriatric patients, primarily over 60 years old, dealing with dementia, depression, or suicidal ideation.
• Administer medications, monitor patient behavior, and engage in therapeutic communication to help improve mental and emotional health.
• Draw blood and manage IVs as required, ensuring proper documentation of treatments.
• Float within the Behavioral Health Pavilion as needed, based on patient care needs and census.
• Work in a 16-bed unit, with 1:6/7 patient ratios, which may increase depending on census.
• Utilize the Epic system for patient documentation (recent Epic experience required, and must be included in your resume).
• Ensure safety and comfort of patients by maintaining a therapeutic and secure environment.
• Engage in de-escalation techniques as necessary, using skills learned from CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• RTO (Requested Time Off) must be submitted at the time of application (max of 7 days). Any candidate requesting more than 7 days will be automatically rejected.
• No block scheduling requests will be accepted.
• Solid black scrubs required.

Gero-Psych Nurse (RN) Required Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse (RN) with 2+ years of experience in psychiatric or geriatric nursing.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) and CPI Blue Card (Crisis Prevention Institute) required.
• Recent Epic experience within the past year (please list where you have used Epic on your resume).
• Must be able to draw blood and manage IVs independently.
• Ability to work the night shift (19:00 – 07:30) and manage 1:6/7 patient ratios.
• Float within the unit as needed.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (or a school accepted for candidacy status by an accrediting body).

Gero-Psych Nurse (RN) Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience in geriatric psychiatry or behavioral health.
• Ability to manage patients with complex psychiatric conditions, including dementia, depression, and suicidal ideation.
• Strong background in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention.
• Experience working with the elderly in a psychiatric setting.
