Histology Technologist Compensation
- The pay for this position is $50+ per hour based on experience
- Benefits are available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment and include health, optical, dental, life, and short-term disability insurance
- A (401k) with a company match is available for full-time employees with 1 year of service on our eligibility dates
Histology Technologist Highlights
- The required availability for this position is Day Shift
- Monday - Friday shifts can be 6:00am- 2:30pm, 6:30am- 3:00pm
- May need 5:00am - 1:30pm
Histology Technologist Responsibilities
- Picks up and/or receives tissue, biological material, and body fluids.
- Assists in research procedures, labels, and places specimens in appropriate container for processing using proper dehydrating, fixing, infiltrating, and paraffin solutions.
- Embeds prepared and fixed specimens into paraffin block using microtome cuts tissue sections to specified thickness.
- Removes excess paraffin, mounts tissue section onto glass slides and stains (routine/special).
- Prepares stains and solutions following specific procedures as listed in appropriate procedure manual.
- Follows established hospital and laboratory safety policies and procedures.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and ensures adequate inventory of laboratory supplies by submitting requests to supervisor.
- Maintains appropriate records, slide files, and tissue blocks as outlined in appropriate procedure manual.
- Answers incoming phone calls, requests for technical information, etc., and gives limited factual information, as appropriate or refers to supervisor or pathologist.
- Maintains section and work areas in a neat, clean, and orderly condition.
- Develops an awareness of new techniques, procedures, equipment, and instrumentation; assists in new product evaluation, laboratory in-service and continuing education programs, professional journals, and trade magazines; and attends outside seminars and/or training programs when appropriate.
Histology Technologist Requirements
- High School Diploma GED
- High School Diploma with 2 years’ work experience in a laboratory setting.
- Associates of Science degree with 1 year work experience in Histology laboratory setting
- Registry certification or eligible at technician level preferred.
- One (1) year previous experience as a Histology Technologist preferred.
- A minimum of 12 continuing education credits are required to be completed each calendar year for continued employment.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform delicate precise dissection procedures, operate cutting instrumentation (microtome), fixing and staining equipment, mix and prepare stains and solutions, and perform preventive and daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Attendance is mandatory for the first 90 days
