Hospital Compliance and Privacy Officer Job Description:
The Hospital Compliance and Privacy Officer is responsible for being part of a team discussing information privacy components of the organization's Ethics and Compliance Program across the health system. This team develops, implements, and monitors compliance components to ensure adherence to federal healthcare program requirements, internal policies, and the Code of Conduct and Ethics.
This role includes compliance with regulatory authorities such as:
Office for Civil Rights (OCR)
Office of Inspector General (OIG)
United States Department of Justice (DOJ)
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
Texas Health and Human Services (HHS)

Days: Monday – Friday

Hours/Day: 8 hours

Shift Time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Weekend Requirements: As needed

On-Call Requirements: As needed
Salary/Wage:
-
Annual Salary Range: $127,004.80 – $216,008
Duties:
-
Develop, implement, and continuously improve compliance and privacy programs.

Create and enforce policies to detect, prevent, and address compliance risks.
-
Conduct risk assessments, audits, and monitoring procedures.
-
Respond to compliance violations and develop corrective action plans.
-
Oversee adherence to health information privacy laws.
-
Promote a "speak-up" culture free from retaliation.
-
Act as the Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with state and federal privacy laws.

Manage cross-functional teams for compliance initiatives.
-
Respond to third-party audits and government inquiries.
-
Stay updated on regulatory changes and implement best practices.
-
Supervise and mentor compliance staff.
-
Chair or co-chair compliance committees as needed.
Experience & Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
-
8+ years of experience in healthcare compliance or operations, preferably in a large healthcare system or academic medical center.

Privacy & security-related investigations

Auditing and monitoring

Education & training
-
Risk assessments and remediation

An equivalent combination of experience and certifications may be considered in place of education.
Preferred Certifications:

Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC)

Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US)
-
Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS)
-
Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC)
-
Certifications must be renewed within 7 days of expiration.
Skills & Abilities:

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

Ability to train and educate diverse teams using reports, webinars, and training sessions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and healthcare compliance tools.

Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure while mentoring subordinates.

High level of confidentiality and professional integrity.

Ability to build consensus and influence leadership teams.

Team-oriented, innovative, and results-driven approach.
Physical Requirements:

Office-based role with extended periods of sitting or standing.

May require occasional travel for compliance meetings and training.
