Manager – Chassis Application Engineering
- Purpose and Scope
Responsible for leading the Application Engineering team that acts as the technical conduit between Sales Team, Customer’ s Engineering, and Global Plant Footprint. As a “ working manager”, holds specific program responsibilities to lead, execute and support various project activities during technical critical phases of awarded programs.
The Application Engineering Manager is responsible for the development of technical proposals for program award, and then supporting the program execution from a technical perspective within Global Chassis Products Team. The Application Engineer needs to be detail-oriented, with the capability to dig into data and prioritize tasks and decisions in a timely manner, as well as results-oriented, with the ability to support cross-functional local and global teams. The Application Engineer will be responsible for the support of the design and development of chassis products including directing the Design Team in Korea to properly package the product in CAD vehicle environment, release CAD models and drawings, supporting testing and product validation while adhering to all applicable company and customer standards and procedures. The engineer should act as a cross-functional team member supporting all applicable internal departments including design, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, program management and suppliers to ensure a flawless program launch. As manager of the application engineering team, ensure that team members are executing their responsibilities effectively and providing mentoring as engineers experience challenges on specific issues that arise during the development of projects.
Based on best practice and project needs, Application Engineering Manager sets forth design direction proactively considering customer voice with best interests for future growth. Application Engineers also have the authority to feed future opportunities and industry trends ascertained from building relationships from technical customer stakeholders into long-term business development strategies. As manager of the application engineering team, the Senior Manager of Application Engineering needs to ensure projects are being developed effectively and on-time, as well as identifying future opportunities and overall strategic direction is in line with growth targets for the Chassis group.
- Education and Training
This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor' s Degree in a related field and preferably, 10 years of position-related experience in Application Engineering. Prior experience with chassis components, assemblies, and systems; specifically control arms, knuckles, ball joints, and stabilizer links. Dedication to continuous improvement and learning is critical for this position. The Application Engineer should possess a strong attention to detail and desire to work in a demanding, fast-paced work environment.
- Technical Requirements
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills plus proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong knowledge of GD&T, DFMEA, and Customer Validation Processes is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiate solutions that are optimal for company and our customers. Provide technical perspective to USA Team in the development of long-term strategies for growing business with Product Innovation Teams.
