Job description:

The Med-Surg Nurse will provide direct, individualized nursing care to patients in the Med-Surg unit, focusing on patient assessment, care plan development, medication administration, and patient education. This role requires strong clinical skills, the ability to work collaboratively with the healthcare team, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

This is a 28-bed Med-Surg unit that provides 24/7 care, primarily for geriatric patients (ages 65+). The team utilizes the “4Ms” framework (What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility) to guide age-friendly care, focusing on functional wellness and minimizing decline. Nurses must be prepared to manage patients with a variety of medical conditions, including GI bleeds, infections, trauma, pneumonia, and CHF.

Med/Surg RN Schedule & Location:

• Location: Akron, OH 44304, United States
• Schedule: 07:00 AM to 07:30 PM
• Must be able to float to various units as needed.

Med/Surg RN Salary/Wage:

• $40.00 - $50.00/hr based on experience (within 40 miles).
• $50.00 - $60.00/hr based on experience (outside 40 miles).
• $2/hour overnight differential for night shifts.

Med/Surg RN Duties:

• Provide direct, individualized nursing care to patients in the Med-Surg unit, tailoring care plans to meet specific patient needs.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and collaborate with the healthcare team to adjust care plans as necessary.
• Administer prescribed medications, IVs, and treatments while ensuring patient safety and compliance with protocols.
• Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatments, medications, and post-discharge care to ensure understanding and adherence.
• Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate optimal patient care, facilitating communication between physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff.
• Follow age-friendly care practices, applying the 4Ms (What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility) to guide patient care and wellness.

Med/Surg RN Required Qualifications:

• BLS Certification (current and active at the time of submission).
• Epic Experience (within the last year) – this must be shown on the resume.
• 2+ years recent Med-Surg experience required.
• Ability to work 3 out of 4 major holidays; cannot have both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off.
• Floating required to various units as needed.
• Active RN license in the state of practice.

Med/Surg RN Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, move, and assist patients.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Med/Surg RN Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
• Active RN license in the state of practice.
