Medical Economic Analyst Highlights

• The pay for this position is $23.00-$29.00 per hour.
• Monday – Friday, 8:00AM-4:00PM
• This position is a temporary contract.

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting fiscal and program analyses to guide the decision-making process for the Pennsylvania Medical Assistance Program.
• Conduct analyses to support operational business decisions, track, report, and control Medical Assistance costs.
• Perform cost-benefit analyses for new Medical Assistance initiatives.
• Conduct cost trend analyses based on geography, services, provider types, places of service, and other relevant factors to identify trends and develop action plans.
• Assist in the development and evaluation of effective provider network management strategies and reimbursement models.
• Identify patterns of abuse, waste, or inefficiencies within the Medical Assistance program.
• Perform fiscal and impact analyses to evaluate potential cost containment strategies.
• Analyze large datasets to assess if targeted cost savings were achieved and identify new savings opportunities.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of healthcare payment reconciliation systems.
• Analyze various data sets to recommend appropriate payment levels and provide fiscal impact estimates.
• Participate in meetings and provide advisement to Commonwealth staff on completed work and analysis results.
• Prepare summary-level papers and defend analyses when necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g., Healthcare Administration, Economics, or Finance).
• At least two (2) years of experience in medical economic analyses or healthcare cost analysis.
• In-depth understanding of inpatient and outpatient medical industry operations.
• Familiarity with claims analysis techniques to identify aberrant billing patterns.
• Strong working knowledge of Medicaid/Medical Assistance is a plus (but not required).
• High proficiency in SAS, SQL, and other data mining software.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Experience in accessing, using, and analyzing complex medical information databases.
