  • Shift: M-F 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Pay Rate: $18.00 an hour
  • Travel : to hospitals across the state (approximately 50% travel, including possible overnight stays).
  • Benefits: available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment

About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Records Assistant to support the surveillance of Zika-related birth defects through medical record review and data abstraction. This role requires collaboration with healthcare facilities across Pennsylvania and travel to hospitals statewide. The ideal candidate will be able to perform tasks independently while occasionally seeking guidance from senior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to hospitals across the state (approximately 50% travel, including possible overnight stays).
  • Communicate and coordinate with Health Information Management (HIM) staff to identify potential cases of Zika-related birth defects.
  • Request medical records and schedule on-site medical record abstraction.
  • Review and analyze hospital discharge summaries, diagnostic indices, and related documentation to confirm disease diagnoses.
  • Abstract demographic, diagnostic, clinical, epidemiologic, and administrative data from medical records into REDCap Cloud.
  • Apply ICD-10 coding accurately to disease diagnoses.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Surveillance Program and healthcare facilities, assisting with remote access to medical records.
  • Generate and compile reports to support program objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Biology, or another health-related field.
  • Preferred Experience: At least one (1) year as a Clinical Research Coordinator or in a health-related registry (e.g., cancer, fetal/infant mortality review, maternal mortality review).
  • Alternate Qualification: Associate’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in clinical research or a health-related registry.
