Medical Scheduler (Oncology Clinic)

Medical Scheduler Description 

The Scheduler is responsible for scheduling patient appointments and tests in an efficient and timely manner. Answers all incoming calls and directs calls to appropriate personnel. Serves as a liaison between patients and medical staff. May orient, train, and assign the work of lower-level employees. May be designated as the lead employee. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

• Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
• $18.50 per hour
• San Antonio TX 78240 United States

Medical Scheduler Duties:

• Answers all incoming calls; assesses callers' needs and directs them to the appropriate personnel. Pages clinic personnel as appropriate. Obtains and communicates messages accurately and in a timely manner.
• Schedules new patients and return appointments in the computer system in accordance with physician and/or office guidelines.
• Cancels/reschedules appointments according to physician schedule changes; notifies appropriate clinic personnel.
• Obtains and enters all authorization and correspondence relating to referrals in patients' charts and the computer system.
• Maintains physician’s schedule: on call, vacations, meetings, etc.
• Schedules outpatient appointments/testing and hospital admissions upon request. Obtains necessary pre-certification as required.
• Handles new patient referrals, gathers necessary information, assigns the patient account number, and schedules appointments.

Medical Scheduler Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one to three years of scheduling experience in healthcare.
• Highly preferred: Chemotherapy and/or Oncology experience, but not required.
