Nurse Manager / Director – Labor & Delivery Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Leader in Labor & Delivery to oversee high-acuity maternal-child health operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This leadership role is responsible for driving clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance while ensuring safe, high-quality patient care across the continuum.
The ideal candidate brings strong Labor & Delivery leadership experience, a passion for patient safety, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a complex hospital setting with 400+ monthly deliveries.
Nurse Manager / Director – Labor & Delivery Key Responsibilities
- Lead implementation of best-practice clinical models and care delivery standards across multiple units
- Oversee patient care delivery systems ensuring safety, quality, and consistency
- Supervise and develop nursing staff, fostering professional growth and performance excellence
- Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and external providers to optimize patient outcomes
- Manage staffing, resource allocation, equipment, supplies, and medications across units
- Ensure compliance with Nursing Practice Act, Joint Commission, and regulatory standards
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, safety, efficiency, and patient experience
- Lead operational planning, budgeting, payroll oversight, and financial management
- Monitor and respond to patient/family concerns regarding care and service delivery
- Ensure readiness for audits, surveys, and emergency preparedness requirements
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high-performance standards
- Support strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals and healthcare transformation
Leadership Scope
- Direct management of nursing staff and unit-based teams
- Cross-functional collaboration with physicians and hospital leadership
- Oversight of 24/7 operational care delivery environments
- Responsibility for multiple clinical workflows and high-volume L&D operations
Nurse Manager / Director – Labor & Delivery Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience in high-volume settings (400+ deliveries/month required)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in patient care delivery
- Minimum 4 years of leadership experience (Assistant Nurse Manager or Nurse Manager level)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required (MSN strongly preferred)
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
Nurse Manager / Director – Labor & Delivery Preferred Experience
- Experience managing Mother/Baby or Maternal-Child Health units
- MSN or advanced nursing degree
- Background in large hospital systems or high-acuity academic medical centers
- Experience with quality improvement, regulatory readiness, and performance metrics
