Job Title: Corrections Registered Nurse

Pay: $50-$55 an hr | Bi-weekly

Job Type:

  • Onsite in Columbus, OH

Shift Options:

  •  Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • 07:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Corrections Registered Nurse Overview:

  • (Duties are illustrative and may vary based on facility needs.)

Direct Patient Care

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients in infirmary or clinic settings.
  • Observe, assess, monitor, and record symptoms, reactions, and patient progress.
  • Conduct nursing rounds; take and document vital signs.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications, treatments, and immunizations.
  • Monitor patients in restraints, lock-up, detention, or isolation at required intervals (e.g., every 15 minutes).
  • Provide immediate medical care for emergencies, including first aid, CPR, and arranging hospital transport.
  • Contact staff physicians as necessary and counsel patients on medical referrals.

Specialized Nursing (Corrections Medical Center Assignments)

  • Responsible for healthcare management of 20–60 bedridden inmates.
  • Evaluate and document required care; complete and review care plans.
  • Administer narcotics and all prescribed medications.
  • Perform specialized procedures, including:
    • IV therapy
    • Chemotherapy
    • Wound care
    • Oxygen therapy
    • Dialysis
    • Blood transfusions
    • Incubation & CPR
    • Tube feeding
    • Catheterization
    • Suctioning
    • Phlebotomy

Leadership & Oversight

  • Organize and oversee “Code Blue” team response.
  • Direct work of health care staff (LPNs, aides) assigned to the area.
  • Serve as lead worker during shift in absence of Nurse 2.
  • Participate in staff development, education, and training.
  • Review care plans and provide orientation to new employees.
  • Assist physician in diagnostic evaluations.

Administrative & Clerical Responsibilities

  • Chart and record all medications, treatments, and relevant medical data.
  • Complete required reports (incident reports, accident reports, Medicaid documentation).
  • Order and maintain supplies, equipment, and controlled drug inventory.
  • Arrange outpatient clinic appointments and medical examinations.
  • Coordinate prescriptions with local pharmacies.
  • Participate in meetings, quality discussions, and problem-solving groups.
  • Serve as liaison between nursing, administration, and other facility units.

 

 

Corrections Registered Nurse Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of professional nursing procedures and clinical best practices.
  • Understanding of state and federal nursing regulations and facility policies.
  • Knowledge of public relations, staff training, and inventory control.
  • Skill in operation of medical equipment (stethoscope, otoscope, BP cuff, EKG machine).
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to evaluate and classify information regarding patients and medical conditions.
  • Physical fitness to perform essential job duties.

 

Current Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing per ORC Section 4723.03.

 

Corrections Registered Nurse Benefits:
