Oncology Pharmacist Job description:
We are seeking an experienced Oncology Pharmacist with at least 2 years of counseling and prescription verification experience to join our team in Fort Worth, TX. This position involves providing clinical support, counseling patients on new drug therapies, and ensuring compliance with evidence-based treatment plans. The ideal candidate must be passionate about patient care, possess excellent communication skills, and thrive in a patient-focused, dynamic environment.
BCOP (Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist) certification or willingness to pursue certification when eligible.
Oncology Pharmacist Schedule & location:
- Monday - Friday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm CT
- Must be able to work the required schedule (M-F 10 AM - 7 PM).

- Must live within 1 hour of the job location in Fort Worth, TX.
Oncology Pharmacist Salary/Wage:
- $60.00/hr
Oncology Pharmacist Duties:
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive Pharmacotherapy Reviews: Conduct detailed reviews of each patient’s medications, including drug utilization, compliance, side effects, drug interactions, and administration methods.
- Patient Counseling: Counsel patients on new drug therapies, ensuring they understand their treatment plans and drug regimen. Provide ongoing support for adherence and compliance.
- Documentation: Accurately document pharmacotherapy reviews and counseling sessions in the patient chart to ensure clear communication with follow-up teams.
- REMS Program: Complete REMS training and adhere to program SOPs for patient safety and regulatory compliance.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with referring clinicians to address the patent's social, psychological, and physical needs, including providing customized services like prefilled syringes and color-coded medication labeling.
- Liaison Role: Serve as the point of contact between patients, caregivers, home health agencies, and physicians to ensure seamless care coordination and provide "outrageous customer service."
- Subcutaneous Teaching: Educate patients and caregivers on subcutaneous medication administration and arrange for additional nursing support if needed.
- On-Call Support: Provide on-call support for patient needs outside of operational hours as directed by the Pharmacist-in-Charge.
Operational Responsibilities:
- Prescription Management: Process prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring that discrepancies are identified and corrected early in the workflow.
- Quality Assurance: Verify the accuracy and quality of the final dispensed prescription product, ensuring all medications are dispensed per the physician's orders.
- Claims Adjudication: Assist pharmacy technicians in the adjudication of pharmacy claims to ensure accurate payment collection.
- Hazardous Waste & Compliance: Monitor hazardous waste materials in the pharmacy and ensure adherence to all state and federal pharmacy laws and company policies.
- Staff Supervision: Oversee pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with sterile techniques and pharmacy best practices.
- Adverse Event Reporting: Ensure timely intake and appropriate reporting of adverse events and product quality complaints.
Professional Development & Compliance:
- Continuing Education: Maintain CE requirements in accordance with Board of Pharmacy laws.
- Professional Development: Support the growth and development of the pharmacy team and attend relevant conferences to stay up-to-date with industry trends.
- License Maintenance: Ensure an active and unrestricted Texas pharmacy license, in good standing, and meet or exceed current CE requirements.
Pharmacist Required Qualification:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
- Licensing: Active, unrestricted pharmacy license in the state of Texas.
- Experience:3-5 years or more post-graduate experience in pharmacy operation, clinical oversight, and patient care
- 2+ years of experience counseling patients and verifying prescriptions.
- BCOP (Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist) certification or willingness to pursue certification when eligible.
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacotherapy, drug interactions, and clinical management models.
- Ability to manage patient care, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and provide exceptional customer service.
- Proficient in computer use and word processing.
