Cardiovascular Technician Responsibilities

• Monitors patients’ blood pressure and heart rate using EKG equipment during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to notify the physician if something appears wrong.
• Adjusts equipment and controls according to physicians orders or established protocol.
• Obtains and records patient identification, medical history, or test results.
• Explains testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
• Monitors the patients comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.
• Attaches electrodes to the patients chests, arms, and legs, connects electrodes to leads from the EKG machine, and operates the EKG machine to obtain a reading.
• Observes gauges, recorders, and video screens of data analysis system during imaging of cardiovascular system.
• Checks, tests, and maintains cardiology equipment, making minor repairs to ensure proper operation.

Cardiovascular Tech Requirements:

• Graduate from a cardiovascular technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT)
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
• Minimum 1 year experience as an echocardiographer Required
• BLS
