Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Position Summary: Patients admitted to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) have actual or potential acute care needs that require continuous monitoring that cannot be provided on the general floors.
• The primary patients admitted to PCU are those who need less care than standard intensive care but more than what is available on telemetry or med-surg units.
• The PCU RN is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care utilizing ANA Standards and the Nursing Process.
• The RN acts as a patient advocate.
• The RN provides support, information and direct care and utilizes equipment and technology skillfully and is technically competent in nursing procedures.
• The Registered Nurse educates patients and families on significant self-care issues.
• The inventory, distribution/delivery of medications may be required.

Registered Nurse Requirements

• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse. Maryland or compact license required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 12 months of employment
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification will be obtained during orientation
