Patient Benefits Representative Job Description:
Under general supervision, the Patient Benefits Representative works directly with patients and their families to provide education and guidance on insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, and available assistance programs. This role is central to the patient experience, especially during a vulnerable time in their cancer journey. Strong interpersonal communication, emotional sensitivity, and professionalism are essential.
Patient Benefits Representative Schedule & Location:

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Patient Benefits Representative Salary/Wage:
-
$21.50/hour
Patient Benefits Representative Duties:
• Meet face-to-face with patients to explain insurance benefits and financial responsibilities
• Assist patients in understanding and accessing financial assistance programs
• Verify insurance eligibility and update patient records accurately and promptly
• Prepare Patient Cost Estimates based on diagnosis and insurance coverage
• Ensure completion of reimbursement and liability forms for billing and compliance
• Obtain necessary insurance authorizations prior to treatment
• Coordinate with front desk and billing to support accurate payment collection
• Stay up to date on available financial aid resources and foster relationships with aid providers
• Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality protocols
• Support patients with empathy, accuracy, and professionalism throughout their care journey
Patient Benefits Representative Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of experience in patient access, financial counseling, insurance verification, or related field
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Knowledge of medical coding (CPT, HCPCS) preferred
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Completion of required onboarding courses within 90 days
Preferred Qualifications (Level Sr):
• Associate’s degree in Finance, Business, or healthcare-related field, or 4+ years of revenue cycle experience
• Experience working with patients in emotionally sensitive or medically complex settings (oncology, hospice, behavioral health, etc.)
• Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
Patient Benefits Representative Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and communicate for extended periods
• Occasionally lift and carry items up to 40 lbs
• Manual dexterity, hearing, and vision sufficient for clerical and patient-facing tasks
Patient Benefits Representative Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate’s degree preferred (verify with Recruiter or Staffing Manager)
