Job Description:
The Patient Financial Counselor is responsible for verifying insurance coverage, educating patients about their financial responsibilities, and assisting with payment arrangements or financial aid. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring a seamless pre-treatment process while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
Patient Financial Counselor Schedule & Location:
- Full-time position.
- Location: Mesquite, TX 75150, United States.
Patient Financial Counselor Salary/Wage:
- Pay Rate: $24.00/HR - $26.00/HR
Patient Financial Counselor Duties:
- Collect and verify insurance information and patient demographics prior to treatment.
- Educate patients about insurance coverage, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
- Assist patients with financial aid applications and payment arrangements.
- Collaborate with Clinical Reviewers to secure insurance pre-authorizations or referrals.
- Update and maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Build professional relationships with financial aid providers to assist patients.
- Maintain updated documentation, forms, and logs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Patient Financial Counselor Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Patient Pre-Services Coordinator or equivalent.
- Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Knowledge of CPT and HCPCS coding applications.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to use correct medical and financial terminology.
Patient Financial Counselor Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Perform light lifting as needed for office duties.
Patient Financial Counselor Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates degree in Finance, Business, or four years of revenue cycle experience preferred.
