Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse (RN) to join our multidisciplinary mental health care team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing services to patients across various settings, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and community programs. Your expertise will support individuals experiencing mental health challenges, ensuring safe, effective, and person-centered care. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations, vital signs, and behavioral observations to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications accurately, including psychotropic drugs, injections, and IV infusions, adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions or changes in condition, promptly reporting findings to the healthcare team.
- Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure safety for patients and staff.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and families to develop and implement effective treatment strategies.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Support discharge planning by providing education on medication management, coping strategies, and community resources.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control standards throughout all patient care activities.
- Participate in ongoing training related to behavioral health, trauma-informed care, and emerging psychiatric treatments.
Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state certification.
- Prior experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation purposes.
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications, including psychotropic drugs administration and monitoring.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Critical care experience or hospital medicine background is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong understanding of mental health assessment tools and crisis intervention techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments such as emergency rooms or trauma centers.
- Knowledge of infection control practices specific to psychiatric settings.
