Job Title: Psychiatrist – Inpatient Treatment Unit (Contract)
Location: Hartford, CT
Contract Length: 3 months, with potential for extension
Schedule: Full-Time
Shift: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
On-Call: None
Position Overview
16-bed inpatient psychiatric treatment program serving adults with acute psychiatric needs, including co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
The Psychiatrist will serve as a member of the Medical Staff and report directly to the Medical Director. This role functions as the clinical head of the inpatient treatment team and plays a central role in assessment, treatment planning, medication management, and discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the clinical leader of the ITU interdisciplinary treatment team
- Complete psychiatric admission evaluations for inpatient clients
- Lead and participate in treatment team meetings
- Review, approve, and sign individualized treatment plans
- Write and manage physician orders, including psychiatric medications
- Document progress notes in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with the primary care physician on clients’ acute and chronic medical conditions
- Complete required components of discharge documentation and aftercare planning

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as an attending psychiatrist on an inpatient psychiatric unit
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary treatment team
- Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
- Familiarity with or experience using Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders
(Preferred qualifications are not required.)
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency
- Active or eligible Connecticut medical license
- Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
- DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
