CVICU RN Job Overview:
We are urgently seeking two experienced CVICU Registered Nurses for an 8-week travel contract at our Akron campus. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled cardiac ICU nurses to join a 26-bed open-heart, thoracic, and vascular unit within a high-acuity, fast-paced environment. The position requires a strong background in open-heart surgery and cardiac care, as well as experience with EPIC documentation.
CVICU RN Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor critically ill patients in the CVICU, including those recovering from open-heart surgery and other cardiac procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments per doctor’s orders, ensuring compliance with care protocols.
- Manage life-support equipment, ventilators, IV lines, and other essential systems to maintain patient stability.
- Obtain lab results and initiate IVs independently as needed, ensuring high standards of patient care.
- Respond to emergencies and provide critical care during life-threatening situations.
- Document patient care accurately in the EPIC electronic health record.
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding post-operative care and recovery.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Floating within the CVICU and other units as required based on patient care needs.
- Work every other weekend and holiday as part of the schedule.
CVICU RN Required Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of 2+ years of CVICU experience, particularly in open-heart surgery and post-operative cardiac care.
- ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications are required.
- Recent EPIC experience (within the last year) is a must and should be reflected on your resume.
- Independent in initiating IVs, obtaining labs, and managing complex patient care.
- Strong clinical skills in monitoring and managing critically ill cardiac patients.
- Ability to work the night shift (19:00 – 07:30) and be flexible to float within the unit.
- Must be able to work every other weekend and holiday.
- CVICU skills checklist required upon submission.
- RTO (Requested Time Off) must be 7 days or less—requests over 5 days will not be considered.
- No block scheduling requests will be accepted.
CVICU RN Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center or similar high-acuity facility.
- Ability to manage patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3.
