Default Reporting / Reporting Developer (Mortgage Servicing)

Rate: $50–$55/hr on W-2 (No C2C)

Location: Troy, MI, or Remote

Position Overview

The Default Reporting / Reporting Developer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise default reporting solutions supporting mortgage servicing operations. This role handles servicing data requests from a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including servicing business units, regulators, auditors, investors/insurers, and executive leadership.

This position plays a critical role in the development and ongoing management of the Default Reporting Program, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely electronic default reporting across investor platforms. The role partners closely with Servicing Technology and Servicing Data Business Analysts to ensure data quality, efficient request fulfillment, and alignment with strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Default Reporting Development & Operations
  • Build, document, and maintain the enterprise Default Reporting Program, enabling electronic default reporting from the servicing system.
  • Champion and support investor-specific default reporting requirements to maintain acceptable tier rankings and exception scores.
  • Review, research, and resolve investor default reporting exceptions, including:
  • Pre-transmission quality control reviews
  • Post-transmission error analysis and resolution
  • Monitor mortgage servicing industry trends, regulatory updates, and investor reporting changes.

Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Partner with Servicing Data Business Analysts to define and validate reporting requirements.
  • Design, develop, and optimize SQL and data queries to support default reporting and ad hoc data requests.
  • Design reporting layouts and visualizations using appropriate BI tools and reporting platforms.
  • Understand and work within upstream and downstream data flows, database architecture, and servicing system dependencies.

Process Improvement & Compliance
  • Drive process enhancements to improve reporting accuracy, automation, and compliance.
  • Support accurate and compliant reporting to investors, regulators, auditors, and internal leadership.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across servicing reporting outputs.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support
  • Serve as a key partner to servicing business lines, technology teams, and data analysts.
  • Support internal and external data requests with a focus on quality, timeliness, and clarity.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience working with mortgage servicing default reporting systems, including but not limited to:
  • FHA
  • VA
  • USDA
  • Fannie Mae (FNMA)
  • Freddie Mac (FHLMC)
  • Familiarity with default reporting event transmission via servicing platforms such as LoanServ or MSP.

Technical Skills

 

Strong experience developing and optimizing queries using one or more of the following:
  • SQL
  • Snowflake
  • Scala
  • Ruby
  • Python

 

Experience with web-based business intelligence and reporting tools, such as:
  • Tableau
  • Power BI
  • Cognos
  • Domo
  • SSRS
  • Solid understanding of:
  • Data management principles
  • Relational and non-relational databases
  • Reporting development lifecycle
