Job Description:

As part of the Transfusion Medicine team, the SBB Certified Transfusion Specialist will be responsible for performing laboratory testing, maintaining competency in all test methods, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, assisting in training, and providing leadership within the blood bank. This is a highly specialized role focused on supporting life-saving treatments for patients.

SBB Certified Transfusion Specialist Schedule & Location:

• Shift: Monday-Friday, with varying shift options (6:30 am - 3:00 pm or 8:00 am - 4:30 pm).
• Location: Houston, TX 77030, United States (relocation required for non-local candidates).

SBB Certified Transfusion Specialist Salary/Wage:

• $50 - $60 per hour, depending on experience.

SBB Certified Transfusion Specialist Duties:

• Perform all laboratory testing specific to assigned section.
• Ensure quality control data is appropriate for reported tests.
• Maintain competency in all test methods and regulatory standards.
• Monitor and follow workflow and turnaround times.
• Coach and mentor students, employees, and fellows.
• Lead and participate in process improvement projects.
• Serve as a Transfusion Medicine expert resource.
• Maintain proficiency in computer functions and patient result analysis.

SBB Certified Transfusion Specialist Required Qualifications:

• SBB Certification (Specialist in Blood Banking) is absolutely REQUIRED.
• Bachelor's Degree in a related science field.
• 6+ years of clinical laboratory compliance and operations experience, with at least 3 years of experience in blood banking and leadership roles.

SBB Certified Transfusion Specialist Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in a laboratory setting.
• Ability to lift and move specimens as required.
• Long periods of standing and walking as needed.

SBB Certified Transfusion Specialist Education:

• Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a related science field.
• Preferred: Master’s or Doctorate degree in a related field.
