Job Description


We are seeking a Software Developer to implement Java-based web applications. This candidate will have the opportunity to participate in all phases of the application development cycle consisting of: meeting with clients to collect and analyze requirements, preparing the application and database design, implementing the application, and maintaining it throughout its lifetime. Job duties require an in-person/on-site presence for at least an initial period of training.

Work Duties:

Work closely with clients, staff and administrators – requires continual testing and modifications once an application has been deployed. Provide training groups implementing the applications, as well as continual development growth and modification within a time-schedule annually. Interpret customer’s needs – design, develop, deploy, support and continually modify applications. Provide evolving changes and needs as directed.

 

Systems and application programming in C#, C++, Java, Javascript, PHP, Python, Perl, UNIX and Windows shell scripting. Design, code, debug, document and support efficient and effective computer applications and tools consistent with established specifications, security protocols and business requirements. Migrate and/or coordinate the migration of application systems from proof-of-concept to quality-assured production environments. Establish, audit and remedy service level agreements for client-facing application systems and services. Collect user feedback, analyze results and develop suggested plans for improvement.

 

Contribute to the establishment of system development protocols and/or selection of systems management approaches to produce the back-end infrastructure to support a continually adapting/changing environment. Chiefly responsible for the development and deployment infrastructure as well as the upgrades and changes to development tools and resources.

 

Research, deploy and maintain system and application security standards for all managed resources. Comprehend and ensure that strict security requirements/restrictions/rules/laws (NIST, ITAR, EAR, FERPA, HIPAA and other similar security/privacy measures) are followed for all application resources. Advise and assist researchers on security issues/procedures and implement security measures for all application development and deployment. Research, implement and enforce good security practices and policies. Practice good information management. Provide and support disaster recovery planning and testing annually.

 

Establish methods and procedures for planning system growth and capacity assessment. Evaluate system and hardware requirements of varying levels of computing as well as implementation and support which are required to launch and support multiple initiatives and prepare for growth and expansion.

 

 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree in computer science, information systems, business, or other related field
  • One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in developing and managing software
  • Knowledge of and experience with object oriented programming principles
  • Experience in Java, MVC web development, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Knowledge of and experience with one or more relational database management systems (MySQL, Postgres, Oracle) and SQL; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must: Java, MVC, Struts and Spring

 

 

Desired Education/Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of database design and implementation
  • Experience in the development, maintenance, testing and design, and support for internet/web applications; experience with Struts, Spring Hibernate, WildFly application server, Maven and version control systems (CVS, Git)
  • Knowledge of the efficient implementation of algorithms and performance optimization, ability to analyze and solve complex problems, converting business requirements into technical designs and code implementation; willingness to seek out new technologies and stay ahead of the curve, meet project deadlines, and expectations
  • Excellent work habits
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment; strong verbal and written communication skills.
