A-Line Staffing is now hiring an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist III in San Diego, CA (92154). This is a critical role with the potential for a Temp-to-Hire opportunity. The start date is January 6, 2025, and the work location will be at San Diego, CA 92154.

Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist III - Job Summary
As the EHS Specialist III, you will play a crucial role in preparing and implementing policies and procedures for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). You will work in a large-scale distribution center or warehouse, managing a variety of safety programs, including fall protection, powered industrial vehicles, ergonomics, risk assessments, emergency response, and hazardous waste management. You will also serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on EHS regulatory compliance and workplace injury reporting/investigation.
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist III - Responsibilities
  • Program Coordination: Supervise and coordinate site EHS programs, including hazardous waste, fall protection, powered industrial vehicles, stormwater management, air permitting, fire safety, and emergency response.
  • Incident Investigation: Conduct investigations of incidents, near misses, work-related injuries/illnesses, and compliance issues. Use data from OSHA 300 logs and workers' compensation trends to identify safety trends and develop creative solutions.
  • Ergonomics Program: Manage the site’s Ergonomics Program, conduct ergonomic evaluations, and develop strategies to reduce injuries and complaints.
  • Training & Development: Develop, create, and deliver effective EHS training programs, including IIPP, Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Powered Industrial Trucks, Fall Protection, and Emergency Response.
  • Hazardous Waste & Recycling: Manage hazardous waste and general recycling programs. Seek out environmentally-friendly alternatives for waste disposal, maintain chemical inventory, and ensure compliance with SDS filing requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain site permits for stormwater, hazardous waste, air quality, and more. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and the California Health and Safety Code.
  • Safety Committee Leadership: Chair the site’s Safety Committee in the absence of the EHS Manager, coordinating communications and meeting minutes.
  • Periodic Inspections: Coordinate monthly site inspections, documenting and following up with the EHS Manager to address any safety concerns.
  • Program Management: Manage the Bloodborne Pathogen Program, including coordinating the Hepatitis B and Tetanus vaccine programs and ensuring training compliance.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Write reports and submit them to the EHS Manager, ensuring the facility meets all required regulatory standards.
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in safety or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related experience in a warehouse, distribution center, or biotech/medical device manufacturing environment with safety and/or environmental responsibilities.
  • Specific Experience:
    • Experience problem-solving ergonomic safety concerns and conducting ergonomic evaluations.
    • Experience managing hazardous waste programs.
    • Familiarity with DHS, OSHA, EPA, RCRA, Air Quality, and Water Pollution regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Effective customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and FileMaker Pro.
    • Ability to follow policies and procedures and solve problems effectively.
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist Additional Requirements
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted California driver’s license and a clean driving record for minimal travel (approximately 35 miles between facilities). Please ensure the candidate’s DMV record is clear.
  • Steel-toed shoes are required for the role.
