Specialty Pharmacist Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Specialty Pharmacist to join a growing specialty pharmacy operation in Collierville, TN. This role offers the opportunity to work with complex and high-impact disease states, including HIV, Hepatitis C, Oncology, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
As a Specialty Pharmacist, you will play a critical role in ensuring safe, accurate, and timely dispensing of medications while providing clinical support and exceptional service to patients, providers, and internal teams. You will also serve as a leader within the pharmacy, guiding daily operations and supporting quality and compliance standards.
Specialty Pharmacist Key Responsibilities
- Verify prescription medications for accuracy, dosage, and drug interactions
- Review patient profiles, including allergies, sensitivities, and medication history
- Provide clinical oversight and intervention when necessary, including physician outreach
- Process and enter prescriptions into pharmacy systems
- Respond to patient and provider inquiries regarding medications and therapies
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve prescription issues
- Perform final quality checks prior to medication dispensing
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, SOPs, and accreditation standards
- Maintain proper handling, storage, and disposal of medications, including controlled substances
- Support team operations and provide guidance to pharmacy staff
- Participate in initiatives to improve patient care, service quality, and operational performance
Specialty Pharmacist Qualifications
- Pharmacy degree (PharmD or equivalent) from an accredited institution
- Active and unrestricted Tennessee Pharmacist license in good standing
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Specialty Pharmacist Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience in a specialty pharmacy setting
- Experience with complex disease states (HIV, Oncology, Hep-C, Rheumatology)
- Background in customer service or call center pharmacy environments
- Familiarity with pharmacy systems and electronic documentation
